I'm thinking of purchasing a larger aquarium, a Fluval Shaker 252 litres,, it comes with a Fuval 307 filter, I already have one, so would keep one as a spare.
In my smaller tank I've always had a problem with Bladder snails, that came with some plants, I was planning on moving all sponges and media from the older filter to the new, but I guess their will be snails eggs in there, I also plan to wash my plants in Alum to kill snails and eggs, but what would I do with wood, rocks and the substrate, could I pour boiling water of them? Would that kill the eggs, I don't know of anything else that could work, as I need to add my fish to the new tank, and could I get a spike or do I just have to live with these snails.

I never managed to eradicate snails without a complete loss of the seasoned filter media and all substrate.

I use very hot water and a brush for decor and I use Hydrogen Peroxide to disinfect the plants.

If I have an inert substrate, I rinse it in hot water, the others that can't be boiled, I trow away.

Then redo the tank and start over a fishless cycle.

You could do that, Start the tank normally, Do a fishless cycle, when ready, disinfect and move the plants and fish.

Then tear the old one apart to clear off all the snails from ever returning back.

Thanks for that, I had a good think and new having to recycle would come up, I'm just going to move fish as easily as can be done. I've watched caveman aquatics on the subject, I like him, and I will just put up with snails. I have them under control. I just squeeze them against the tank.

I have the same in one tank, it becomes difficult to feed everything without feeding them at the same time.

Bit late for you now, but for future reference, Assasin snails do a marvelous job of disposing of nuisance snails, without becoming a nuisance themselves.

Yeah, but last time I got assassin snails

Planaria came in with them.

It's an ever ending gamble.

Ouch! I must have been lucky then. Next question is how did you deal with the planaria?

I've read all about Assassin Snails, never fancied adding any snails to my tank, don't really like them, will just keep on squishing.

The good thing about assasin snails is you need a male and a female to breed, so if you just get one it will do the job for you without itself becoming a pest, and they are good at what they do.

How about a zebra loach (or a yo yo) They are snail eaters, which I didnt know until it ate my ramshorns:eek:😂

Not a loach as they need to be in a group, I'm afraid. Those two species also need a longer tank than 105 cm/41 inches.
