I have a clown loach with a swollen cloudy eye. I only bought him on tuesday and he has been hiding so I have only just noticed it My water seems fine , no ammonia or nitrite any body got any ideas please

Sounds like it could either be a bacterial, or parasitical, infection. Here's some links to help you out.....

One of my fishes had 'pop-eye' recently. All I did was to turn up the heat to about 30c, for a half day, then resumed normal temps. Left it to rest for the night, and saw it was gone in the morning. Mine was a bacterial infection.

You could give this a go. Hopefully, if things work out you wouldn't need any type of medication.

Good luck! :(

On second thoughts, since the fish is fairly new, do you still have the sales receipt to return the fish with? It could have been a 'diseased' fish when you had bought it.
:)

Thanks for your reply i returned a dead cory julii the same day I bought the clown - with difficulty, they do not take responsibility once you have left the shop. I think i'll have to find a different supplier I have 11 neons and 3 cory julii aling with my 2 clowns, will they be affected by the rise in temp? thanks

I didn't segregate my infected fish from the others because, in this way, I treat them all at once. If any of the others are afflicted with the same disease/bacteria, they weren't affected in any way.

By raising the temperature, we are effectively extending the temperature threshold these bacteria thrive in. Luckily, I had caught this affliction in time.

I hope you have the same luck. :)

what kind of shop is that??? sounds unresonable..... i mean atleast they should check your water and do a exchange... i mean thats what LFS do..... hummm do you know what ph that your loach is raised in(the shop)??? some weak fish may have this kind of trouble in different ph...... i happen to mine fish once

Sounds like popeye. I don't know what meds clown loaches can take. U should take it back to the store, or flush it if you can't and it's too far gone.

The fish store did test my water and replace my cory, I have been today and they recommended Melafix, so i'm giving that a go. I have changed 1/4 of my water. Praps I should have taken out the carbon filter, but it os more than 6 weeks old so I expect its not working anyway. I have also changed one of my plants from plastic (quite sharp) to material in case he prodded himself on that Thamks for your comments :)
