A few days ago I noticed that one of my Glofish Tetras seemed to be in distress, spending most of the time unmoving in a corner of the tank.
I quarantined the fish in a 2L tank with a little salt added to the water.
I cleaned the original tank thoroughly and did a 75% water change.
Today, I noticed that (1) the quarantined tetra's right eye is swollen, and (2) another tetra in the original tank also seems lethargic.
The original tank is 60L (30x60x45cm) and contains a mix of black skirt tetras (natural, albino, and Glofish, all 1" to 1.5" long. I've had them between 1.5-2.5 years, some of the fish for longer than others), as well as one pleco, one tiger barb, and one small angelfish (there's a story behind where I got the later two, and I know the pairing is not ideal - I would love to get more of each type to keep them in groups, but I can't start more tanks right now.) No new fish have been added to the tank in at least 6 months.
Two fish from the tank have died in the last month, but the water parameters were normal, and I did not think much of it, since I have read that the normal lifespan of these fish is 3 years, and I have had some of them for close to that time.
Tank parameters (original tank and quarantine tank):
Temp 82'F
ammonia 0ppm
nitrite 0
nitrate <80ppm in original tank, <10 in quarantine tank
