I have a betta with 2 separate areas of swelling on his body. The first swelling is on his underside, near his pectoral fins. He has been swollen there for about a month. The second swelling is more recent, about 2 weeks, and is on his side. This "lump" has been slowly growing larger. He is eating and swimming normally, he does not seem to be as active as my other betta in another tank, but then the "lumpy" betta is at least 2 years old. His scales are not pineconing.
The tank is 10 gallon, heavily planted, shared with 6 Cardinal Tetras, and several MTS.
I have tried fasting, then feeding peas, which he seems to like, but that hasn't helped. I did try an Epsom Salt dip once, but that also seemed to have no effect.
I hesitate to medicate, until I know what the illness actually is. I thought at first, with the initial swelling, that it was constipation, but now with the second lump, I just don't know.
Any insight appreciated.
thank you

Not sounding to good to be honest.
The lumps do they look hard or soft.
With lumps all you can do is try a bacterial med, if its a tumour there no treatment, only a vet.

Thanks Wilder. The lumps look hard. If it's some sort of bacterial infection, shouldn't his tankmates be affected?

Sadly if the lumps are hard sounds more like tumours.
You could issolate the fish and try a bacerial med.
