Hello...

I'm planning to switch over to saltwater fish. My freshwater tank just went through a major accident and I didn't want to start over again with it so I thought I tried something new. I want to start a saltwater tank with my 10gallon. So the things that were left over from the freshwater tank were the:

-Tank w/hood and lights.
-Heater.
-And Filter

I got some advice to change the stuff inside the filter. They also told me to buy the following:

-Marine Salt

-Power Head

-Pool Filter Sand

-Hydrometer

-Live Rock

Is there anything else I need for the start up or is that all the material?

There are very FEW pool filter sands that are appropriate for marine use, you'll want aragonite sand instead. You may need to change your bulbs to a marine spectrum if you want to keep corals, if you just want a fish or two, you can keep what you have. You'll also need test kits for saltwater (many of the chemicals are the same, but the color cards are different), and a source of RO or DI water. With such a small tank, purchasing water from your LFS may be the best course of action.

Have you thought about stocking?
