I have just bought a Fluval 105 for my 80L tank, previously it have a fluval 3+ in it but that was having to be cleaned weekly due to the amount of waste from my discus. We have set up the external and left the internal in. I thought that possibly allow the bacteria to build up in the external before removing the internernal is this the right thing to do?
Thanks

You'd be better off putting media from your internal into the external and getting rid of the internal altogether now, IMO

Just as an aside, I'm not sure discus should be in an 80l; isn't it a bit small? How many do you have?

+1 on both accounts.

Add the medieval from the 3+ to a basket in the 105 then remove the internal filter.

An 80 litre tank is waaaaaaay too small for discussion, even for a grow out tank imo. I would say 240+ litre would be a more realistic size.
