So i've been reading up on filters and I've come to a conclusion that bio-wheel filters are better than whipsers. Lately i've had my bio-bag clog up alllll the time which is very annoying as it also contains some beneficial bacteria i think? Should i switch from a whisper PF-30 to a Penguin BIO-Wheel Power Filter?

i have a penguin 330 on my 40gal works great.i don't have to change out the filters as much just a quick rinse in some tank water and there good to go.not like the whisper 20 i have on a 10gal that requires a new filter every 2-3weeks can't clean those they fall apart from the frame.i like knowing the brown ugly bio-wheel is benifical bactiria at work.

Hi. I recently got a Penguin 350 for my new 55 gallon set-up. I think it will be a good filter in the long run, and it has some nice features and is a reasonable price. One thing i do notice about it is that it is noisy. I think the bio-filters cause most of the noise. You can hear them turning a little and sort of knocking a bit as they go around. In addition they splash the water as it goes by a bit so there is also that noise. It's not unbearable or anything, but my tank is in my bedroom so it is much louder at night, but it hasn't been keeping me up. So if your tank is in your bedroom, and you are a light sleeper, you might want to listen to one first!

That's the one thing i like about these filters the nice waterfall sound makes my dreams of being at the coast seem more real .lol

As long as you have no plans on putting sand in as a substrate the penguin buiowheel is really goodI had 2 150's for a while in my 20 gallon and never had issues. when I added sand thoughI ran into so many problems, basically the water is pulled in directly to the impeller so if there is debris it can shut down your filter, but with gravel there perfectly fie

just make sure when you do switch keep both filters running in the tank untill the new filter is established
