I have all of my fry in a breeder right now. I was looking at them and noticed one of them is swimming vertically all the time. I thought maybe he was dieing for some apparent reason. So I checked him again this morning and he's still going. He's eating. Doesn't appear to have any deformaties. He's simply constantly swimming vertically. I can't find anything on this. Any ideas?

Its swimbladder may not be formed properly. If it does not sort itself out, it will pobably die.

i am having a similar situation with my swordtail fry, very quickly they start swimming vertically then they later die, i agree with the post before, carry on how it is but it still has a large chance of not surviving

My little fry is still going. He seems to start swimming the right way once in awhile but very quickly gets back in the vertical direction. I don't get it. I expected him to die but he's still going. I've been trying to look at his fins to see if something is wrong that could be making him do this but he's still so tiny and moves around so much I can't really tell.

It sounds harsh but I would feed him to his mum. He's not going to survive and it's probably kinder to put him down. It does sound like swim bladder, and that is incurable. My unattractive fry, taildraggers, deformed fry etc. all end up as snack for mollies. They love them.

These are whats called "belly sliders", it's a swim bladder problem where the bladder has not filled after birth.

A common what to help these fish is to place them in a floating tub with only a inch of water to reduce the pressure.

Strange, i ahev around 100+ convict fry, adn none of this have had this problem. Is this only for livebearer's and Killifish?

I've actually released all 21 of my fry with the adults today. They seem to be paying no mind to them. Even my betta doesn't show much interest in them. I'm sure when I wake up tomorrow I'll see a reduced number though. Poor babies.

Sure enough this morning I counted and about half of my fry were gone....including the vertical one. Guess we'll go through this again in about a month. lol

my platy for the first time had 8 fry, after a week i'm down to 4 lol.

Once I again I checked this morning and in two days I've gone from 21.......to 3. I was kind of hoping a few more than that would make it. I have a male betta in there..I'm sure he's taking them as midnight snacks. I'm kinda bummed about it now but on the up side that was too many fish for this tank anyway. So it's all for the better.

I would be totally gutted if i lost my fry like that, they are my babies and i get really upset if they die never mind getting eaten :-(
