I wasn't sure where to put this topic, but I figured Tropical Chit Chat would be as good a place as any... has anyone heard of sweetheart blood parrots? I just saw some at my LFS, and they are just the cutest things in the world! I'd like to know more about them, but I can't find anything on the internet... anyone know anything about them?
Edit: Are they just a different shape of blood parrot, like the unicorn parrots?

Do You Mean A Parrott Like This.

If So You should know they are Sometimes a Natural Deformity Resulting in the Sweetheart Valentine Heart Shape.

But Most of these Parrots have had the tail cut off when young and they develop this shape as they grow.

By Unicorn Parrott I trust you mean

I never knew these Existed till you mentioned htem and I Searched for them

I saw a tank full of those with no tail at a "less than reputable" lfs.

The employee had no clue when I asked him.

I had no idea they could be mutilated.

I did a little more research and found out that they're breeding them without tails now... my LFS owner assured me that that's the case with her stock, and they didn't have their tails cut off.
They look pretty cool, but I wouldn't buy a fish that was bred to have a deformity like that... not to mention I don't like the way adult parrot fish look ;)

i heard it was harder for them to swim straight because of the mutated tail but the unicorn BP is awsome

DD :)

i wish it were a sales tactic

theyre mutated or geneticly formed to not have one, i dunno why though

I'm on extremely good terms with my LFS owner... she's the only person who works there, besides when she's sick and her husband takes over for a day or two. Trust me, if those fish actually had their tails cut off as fry, then her supplier lied to her about them, rather than her lying to me. She really cares about her fish, and wouldn't knowingly lie to customers (especially not regular customers like me) about them. Besides, I already told her I didn't like blood parrots, so she ought to have known I wasn't going to buy one long before I asked about the tails
Blood parrots are infact being bred without tails, a condition which apparently resulted from a random genetic mutation (like kangaroo cats, which have extremely short front limbs and have to hop about on their back legs)... considering how much easier it would be to simply get a pair of sweetheart parrots and breed them rather than breeding two normal blood parrots and altering all the fry, I'd be willing to bet money that the ones in my LFS are bred that way rather than altered (plus, I have my LFS owner's word that that's the case :p)

LOL, I dont know what your LFS owner told you, and she may be gullable as much as you are in this case. Those ARE mutilated, they dont come out w/out tails. IF you somehow breed 2 Tailless bps, you will get REGULAR BP Babies, not tailless, it's not a genetic trait, it's human introduced. You may get one or two deformities over a course of a few breedings, just like any other fish, but you will not get a batch of tailless fish.

Yes, sadly, along with Parrots being dyed, they are now having their fins being cut off. Such as the case of the 'Sweetheart', thier entire tail is cut off. With the 'Unicorn', the take of a part of the dorsal.

Paradise....theres no reason for a comment like that! You could have made your point without calling synirr gullable :/ ...This is the Friendliest Forum Around!!

What was wrong with Paradises Post, All he Said that they may be Gullable.

Sorry if that is a rude word to yourself.
Gullible = Easily deceived or duped.
