Hi,

I'm doing a project for my composition 2 class. I need to collect 20 surveys answering the following questions. I have 12 so far, so I need 6 more. In addition to answering the questions, please state:

1. Sex
2. Age group (6-18 yrs, 19-40 yrs, or 41+)
3. Racial Background (african-american, asian, caucasian, latino, native american, pacific islander, other (specify))
4. Community type (rural, suburban, urban)
5. The country you are from

Here are the questions:
1. If you currently have a pet, how did you obtain it? If you currently don't have a pet, or you wanted to get another one, where would you go to get it?
2. Do you think it is important that dogs and cats are spayed/neutered? why or why not?
3. If there was a big change in your life, such as moving or having a baby, what would you do with your pets?
4. What is pet overpopulation?
5. How often should pets go to a veterinarian?
6. Where is your area shelter or humane society?

2. No, unless they are in enviornments around other dogs/cats alot

1. dog: adopted from breeder, dog 2: found as stray, cat: adopted from shelter, unwanted kittens cat 2: same
2. Yes. I volunteer at the shelter and there is an unbelievable amount of kittens there - it's idiotic not to spay a housepet.
3. Keep the pets, obviously, unless the child was deathly allergic, and then I would insure a good home.
4. More pets than could be supported.
5. At least yearly, preferably bi-yearly.
6. 15 miles, into town.

One was a rescue, the other was given to me by a friend.
2. Do you think it is important that dogs and cats are spayed/neutered? why or why not?
Yes it is important to decrease the surplus population, thus reducing feral animal preying on natural species as well as reducing the number of animales shelter have to euthanize.
3. If there was a big change in your life, such as moving or having a baby, what would you do with your pets?
I am moving, and they are going with me.
4. What is pet overpopulation?
Too many animals for the ecosystem to properly support.
5. How often should pets go to a veterinarian?
At least every 6 months for a check up.
6. Where is your area shelter or humane society?
We have one in the north part of the city.

2. Do you think it is important that dogs and cats are spayed/neutered? why or why not? - Yes because too many outside pets continue to have offspring that on't be cared for. From what I understand, it also lowers the rise of problems later for the pet.
3. If there was a big change in your life, such as moving or having a baby, what would you do with your pets? - Keep her
4. What is pet overpopulation? - Too many animals than can be properly cared for
5. How often should pets go to a veterinarian? - Annually or any time they're ill
6. Where is your area shelter or humane society? - There are 2 within about 10 miles of me

1. I have 5: 4 dogs from 2 different breeders, cat from the Humane Society
2. Yes. Leave the breeding up to professionals that know what they're doing.
3. Just had a baby, actually. Pets are still here, were introduced properly with no issues.
4. To many pets in ratio to homes available for them.
5. For their vaccinations and if sick...however frequent (or infrequent) that may be.
6. Almost right in town...not far away.

RSPCA has supplied both cats.I would go back or for fish the lfs or private sale

Yes if not for breeding. I do not want strays.

Keep them they are part of the family.

Too crowded for health.
5. How often should pets go to a veterinarian?
depends on the animal but once a year at least.

1. The dog was from a petstore, all of the ferrets were rescues or adoptions, the horses were purchased from private sellers
2. Yes because there is already such a large number of unwanted animals out there why would you want to add to it?
3. Find any possible way to keep them and if that wasnt an option take all of the time necessary to find them the best new home possible.
4. Too many animals and not enough homes for them

Cats - purchase from breeder. Chinchillas - purchased from breeder and own breed. Fish - purchased from shops and other members

If you are not breeding as registered breeder then it is responsible to spay/neuter
3. If there was a big change in your life, such as moving or having a baby, what would you do with your pets?
Pets would stay with me and would adapt to the circumstances
4. What is pet overpopulation?
Too many pets for the amount of people that are willing and able to care for them. This may be in one household or as an overall view
5. How often should pets go to a veterinarian?
At least once a year for their jabs and check ups and then as often as necessary for ongoing treatment and health problems.
6. Where is your area shelter or humane society?
There are various shelter around the area some specialist other more general. Most can be accessed within a few miles or a short drive
