Last night was an interesting time for me. After finishing my homework and becoming completely sleepy, I decided 1 o'clock was about time for bed.. :p. I got upstairs and as I was preparing to lay down, I decided to take the advice of a few people on here and check my filter for platy fry. (If you weren't aware- I bought a pregnant platy and when she became skinny suddenly yesterday morning, I figured she aborted.) I took a flashlight, and checked the filter cartridge. They are in an Eclipse System 6 - and if you don't know what that is, the cartridge sits horizontally in the hood and the water flows over it, down to a chamber where the bio-wheel is. Anyways, I found some little orange things that didn't look like fish poop. When I realized they were fry I sprang into action! No more sleepy for me! I don't have a clue how they survived - they were sitting on a moist cartridge, with barely any water flowing over/under them. Anyways, I found 3 live ones, and one dead. I was afraid they wouldn't make it cuz of all that stress, but they're still alive! I moved them to the net breeder with my zebra danio fry. It's hilarious - the platy babies are fatter and as long as the largest danios, who are much older! Ah well, I'm psyched. Thanks to those who suggested I don't give up and check those places! They're just adorable - bright orange, I think the father was a sunburst platy so they'll be gorgeous.

Next survival story - when I went to move the platy fry into the net breeder, what did I find, but an ADULT zebra danio swimming around in there!! This means he jumped the tank divider AND the frame of the breeder. Craaaazy fish. :fun: Needless to say, there's quite a few of my babies missing . Guess he thought he'd have a midnight snack! Oh well - I've still got around 15 left. Plus my new cuties, yey!!

Oh, juliethegr8te, your life is full of such drama!!!!!

I'm really glad you saved the babies! And now you have another story to tell. It's a great hobby, isn't it?

:- :mama: :hooray: I'm so glad the mother didn't abort like you thought to begin with! Good luck with the fry and let us know if you get any pics!

Oh, lucky you!!! I never get that much luck!!
Haha oh man, ask anyone who has been on this board with me for awhile, and they'll tell you that what I've had in my fish keeping experience has not exactly been lucky. This is one of those rare times I feel like I actually did get a piece of luck! In the past I've had tons of fish problems, and hardware - I actually had a leaky tank with fish IN it! And I've had a filter than just up and quit working - both very nice and stressful experiences that decided to happen right before I was going to bed. Trust me - if you stay in the hobby long enough you'll end up with "good luck" like this, but there's always a share of bad too! However, thankfully, the good makes up for the bad.
