hi everyone
I have got a problem with a film on the top of my water and have been looking at surface skimmers, my problem is where to put it as the water coming out of the outlet doesn't have any film around it, but at the other end of the tank it's quite bad (3/4) of it, is it ok to put it at the end furthest away from my out let pipe, quite a few reviews say to place it the same direction as the outlet pipe to keep the circulation going in one direction
Thanks in advance
Dan

The film is likely a protein film, sometimes more common in planted tanks. Surface disturbance from the filter return should deal with it normally, unless it is being caused by some issue that may need correction. With plants and especially floating I have used skimmers attached to the canister filter intake. It will pull the surface across the tank, though floating plants may prevent this. I gave up on skimmers as tiny fish kept getting pulled in and stuck, and floating plants clogged them. If something specific is causing the film, you can invert the water changer and suck it off at the water changes.

Keeping Bettas I know about surface film and water movement, As I only use a sponge filter I made a slight mod to my tank, Basically I added a bit of tube to the return side that sits just above the water.
