I just bought a 30 gallon set up from craigslist and it came with this old supreme aqua master model PL filter. Its made by Danner Mfg and I have been able to find new replacement filters but thats the only info I've found on the net. I will be email Danner but it looks like they've moved into pond filters only. This power filter is really old.

I was told by the guy that it needs another tube from the outlet section so that the water spits into the tank properly and secondly a "gooseneck" as he described. I pictured the "U shape gooseneck that I made from some parts"

Problem is that the filter sucks up the entire filter holding tank faster than the water flows into it from the syphon. I then tested my Whisper Canister filter in the holding tank and it reached an equilibrium so I'm not sure what the problem is.

If anyone has any advice on this I'd appreciate it.

I'll post a stolen description someone gave from fishaholics.org

A bit late with this posting but, I have the same power filter/pump. I can say this "it is quite old". I have had mine since the 70's and still going strong. This was the preferred type filter system back in the day. Now most of what you see is gravity type systems which frankly suck compared to these old gems. Here are basic parts: motor or power head, 90degree fitting with air cap which allows air to be introduced into water flow, 2 to 4 1in siphon tubes, pump mounting grate and reservoir. I do not remember how much water mine moves but, I can tell you it moves allot. To set it up just place the pump mounting grate in the bottom of the reservoir layer some filter cotton as I call it about an inch thick. Then pour a layer of charcoal about 1/2" on that then another layer of filter cotton about another inch. Place the pump on the mounting tube located at one end of the mounting grate then fill reservoir. Cap short end of tubes submerge in water to fill and lower short end of tube in the reservoir. Once all tubes are in place plug her in. These pumps do run a bit louder than your typical gravity flow but, nothing you won't get used to.

The only reason I want to set this up is that I believe it filters A LOT more than the canister "whisper 10 to 30 gallon model"

Sorry I didnt resize the pictures. I can if its a problem for the mods. Thanks all!
