Alright, I've tried my hand at the ol' Planted tank bit. And as of right now, all of my plants are flourishing... all but one.

Now everyone point, laugh, and call me an idiot under your breath... but are you supposed to "de-pot" the potted plant? It's the only one not growing like weed in the tomato garden, and it's kinda making me think I should reach down there and kick it out of it's pot and drop it into my gravel.

Help a fishy brother out.

You can take the plant out of the pot if you want. if there is still rockwool, you can remove that from your plants too. However, some people like to leave their plants in the pots and wool because it makes them easier to move. So if you ever want to redecorate your tank it'll be a breeze.

I personally like to get rid of the pot and mineral wool. HTH

I've kept plants in the pots and shared the same results, slowed growth. I've had good results taking the plants out of the pots only and taking them out of the pots and rockwool. I found the plastic pot kept causing the plant to float anyways. I just added a couple huge limnophila's tonight that came in rockwool and the pots. I've taken the pot off, but I now choose to leave the rockwool on until a good rootmass has established. once the roots have grown to a decent size, I gently remove the rockwool and bury the root mass. I've found that If you (I) remove the rockwool right away before establishging decent roots, the plats easily float to the top since it's just loose substrate holding thin straight stalks in place. Once you have 1-2" of roots, they bury easily and anbchor the plants well with none to minimal uprooting.

il be honest i must be the worst planter eva as i did it semi drunk lol, my 3 reeds have the lead weight on them holding them under a bit of gravel so i gess they will make ruits under the gravel and do ok, and aslo there is a random peice oxygenatin weed sat on top of my tank, and there is anuva random peice of it tied down, also there is a really gd kind of oxygenating plant that has gone MAD and grown really well, so it seams you can set up a tank adn plant plants fine even wen drunk so just go for it mate!!!!

I always remove the pot and cut the end of the roots.. this get the root growing faster and get new leaves aswell

I also remove the pot and wool.

I'll say the hardest one to remove the rock wool from was a java fern. I butcherd that plant pretty bad.
