Hi all,

Saw one today and would go nicely in my m8's tank. But cant find a pic on the net. Its was sort of blue that faded to red.

Anyone for a pic or link. It would be most appreciated.

Cheers

hey

is this 1????

gourami.jpg

coz a lfs near me sells them n they have a policy on not selling dyed fish

Tek :fish:

There are red varieties of dwarf gouramis and I do not believe that they are dyed. At least I have never heard that and they do not look like a dyed fish. Anyway, I looked on the Petsmart site because I know they sometimes carry 'Sunset' gouramis, but they didn't have that name. I think it must be related to this one, however, so see what you think.
Red Fire Dwarf Gourami
You may find this interesting, too. It seems that because red and blue are equally represented in the wild male gourami, breeders have been able to selectively reduce one or the other of the colors to produce many different red or blue varieties. It also states that the females are not colorful (which is why you do not often see them in fish stores). If the color was dyed, I'm sure they would dye the females as well as the males. I have cinnamon dwarfs, which have virtually no blue at all, just a pretty orange.

Dwarf Gouramis
teknikz - thats the one!

When i saw these in the tank, their colouration did look natural! But saying either they were all males, or dyed.

tek, that is a different fish than what my lfs' sell as sunset gouramis. that one looks very natural. the ones I have seen would be the red fire dwarf gouramis that have been died blue, the fronts are red, their tail to about mid body is blue fading into red and the blue looks just like the blue on the "blueberry tetras". I'd say that fish would be ok DG.

Can't help but ask the question, when fish this beautiful are being bred and are readily available and inexpensive, why are they using dye at all? :/

Everone wants novelty.
