In a booklet that I picked up from my LFS, it said that you should keep your tank out of direct sunlight. Mine is, but sometimes, there's a bit coming through the blinds onto it.

I was just wondering how important it is to keep it out of direct sunlight, and what the effects are if you do/don't.

Sunlight will cause algae to grow, and i suppose in hot weather cause the Tanks temperature to rise.

By the sound of it, where your Tank is, is OK! Mine gets occasional sunlight, it can't be helpled.

As KentBlokey rightly says the only problems that direct sunlight will cause is increased unsightly algae growth and possible temperature fluctuations.
Unless you live in a nice warm country (ie. not UK) then this really won't be that much of a problem apart from at the height of summer.

Even in the winter the sun through a window can be quite warm. Algae may be a bother, but the fish don't care - algae is actually good for them. The temperature is the real concern. A couple of degrees one way or another is no big deal, you just want to make sure the tank isn't over heating.
