the friend i got my fish tank from told me not to put the tank by the windows coz it encourages algi and stuff

True :nod: it also creates a much bigger problem in summer when the heat in the tank can go sky high.
We're talking about direct sunligth though. Not just normal light from a room. So anything right next to a window is not a good idea.
 
when he owned the tank it was by the window and it was green and nasty :sick: he had 1 red bellied pirahana in there with no gravel or decor and no pump would you belive :angry:

yuck! It definitely helps, my apt. bedroom has one window, and I have the aquarium 8 or 9 ft from the window with no algae problems whatsoever..... and I dont even own an algae eater :thumbs:
