hi there

after filling up both display and sump and getting salinity and temp to the right levels i have found a few problems with my set up,
the first is that the stand pipe cannot take down as much flow as is going into the tank. to solve this i think i need to restrict the flow going into the tank.

secondly the outlet is in the middle of the water. this creates a problem when the pump is turned off back flow occurs. and fills up the sump and then to the floor! so i was thinking i either need a non-return valve or an extention on the pipe to make a spraybar above the water line.

my return is a fluval fx5 and the tank is a vicenza 260 using the two holes in the bottom.

thanks for ur advise in advance.

How big is your drain bulkhead ?

How big is your return bulkhead ?

An inch down pipe should be more than enough for 2500LPH is there anything restricted the downflow through the canister?

no but this is the least of my problems the most is finding a non return valve any ideas?
Although i think having a spray bar is easiest and best.

any one with a sump got any ideas?

i plan to solve the slow downpipe with restricting the output to the display

Hi - In the middle of my first tank setup too, kind of the same issue? Well, maybe. My sump drain seems too loud, and it got louder today as I changed the return pipe slightly. Swapped my custom 90' bends for a smoother Ehiem 22mm pipe.

Doing that has increased the flow LOADS, so the sump drain is now louder than it was before - and it was loud before that... back to drawingboard for me, but maybe sharper bends on the return might help you out? I can't control my flow rate on the Ehiem 1262.

Good luck.
