Hey guys wonder if you can help me, i orderd a certain type of pump hoping it would give me about 4x the volume of the aquarium into the sump and back round. Now this pump was out of stock so they sent me another 2000lph pump but had a smaller pumping height.

So i kinda worked out im getting just over 2.5x turnover with this pump is it enough?? Or will issues such as heating etc say to get a bigger pump?

Cheers

In the UK, it probably won't. You guys don't get severe enough winter temps for it to be much of an issue :)

You wanna bet Ski? :shifty: We've had ice on the ground for a week solid now and it's still getting colder. A 150W heater on my 70l is struggling at night to keep the temp stable. If it carrys on the 150W QT tank heater will have to come out to "re-inforce" the existing one

If the pump isn't the one you orderd and does not have matching specs, you don't have to keep it. I'd ask them how long it will be before the one you ordered will next be in stock and decide from there :good: Idealy you want it "upgradeing"

All the best

EDIT; sorry, many Typos today for some reason

Well ive asked to send it back, but if issues arrise as they do. Ill use it to cycle the tank till i can spare some money for a nice 3000lph pump. That will give me least 7x turnover :p

Total in the display tank, the system or through the sump? Are you using liverock in the display or sump? If so, turnover wherever you are putting it needs to be 10X an hour minimum. If you want coral, you will need 20X an hour minimum turnover :good: That flow rate should be fine for a fish only system though, without live rock

Trust me, you guys surrounded by ocean have WAY more moderated temps than we do :) Your averages over the course of months in the winter is a good 10-15F warmer than ours, and our extremes are pretty darned extreme. When the temp drops down in the single digits (farenheight) at night like it does here for at least a week in jan/feb, you need a little bit of heat for the tank ;). I totally believe it gets cold there, but we definitely have it a little rougher at the peak of both winter and summer (cold and heat)
