Okay guys, It's spring time now here in Canada and the temp is starting to be nice and warm and Summer's on its way. Just wondering if your still supposed to turn on the heater on your tank when the temp outside can range from 25 C- 40 C. We have AC in my apartment but it won't be turn on until we get back from work. It's going to be my first summer on this new hobby.... :D

If you are sure the temperature stays constant (no direct contact with A/C, sunlight, drafts, etc.) then it should be ok. Maybe get a thermometer for the room to test and see if the temp stays constant.

That's pretty much the way I work it. When I am positive that the temperature of the tank will not drop below 76° I unplug the heaters.

It gets pretty humid inside my apartment during the summer, but our AC is pretty far from the tank. i don't think my temp would drop more than 25 C on the summer, I'm more concern that my water might boil(not literallly).. It be great if i could unplug the heater less electricity... :D

good point cich Addict but it uses a lil electricity.howsa vbout just hookin and electric eel to your tank.... unlimited electricity! :hyper:

I'd just leave it plugged in.

It's not going to use a noticeable amount of electricity.

I live in southern ontario... and it gets quite chilly at night... sometimes down to 10... maybe even lower. I would suggest leaving it on all the time. To many fluctuations in water temp can be a might be stressful for your litle guys.

Hi G_Sharky :)

One thing I wouldn't want to take any chances with is fluctuations in water temperature.

The stress that this puts the fish under could result in them coming down with ich or bacterial infections.

IMHO, the few cents you would save by turning the heater off would just not be worth the risk you would be taking.

ALL summer and spring here, I did not need a heater and the temperature got as high as 34C/93F.
