I'm thinking of getting a few African dwarf frogs, maybe a couple shrimp, but what other interesting fish tank companions that aren't necessarily fish, or maybe are fish but don't look like the traditional fish(Eg the eel shaped fish) are there?
I have a 30 gallon tank, its been cycling a little over 2 months now, and only one of the starter fish died, and that was over a month ago. I have A dwarf gourami, killie, long finned danio, two guppys and an upside down catfish.

Not sure this is posted in the right place, but I'll try to help.
Since danios like to be in groups get 4-5 more. Then get 2 more upside down catfish, as they too prefer groups.
Then get a peacock eel or 2 (they will live together so long as they're about the same size). That should round out the tank nicely. I'd pass on the frogs as the tank is so large it will be more difficult to make sure they are fed, esp with the fast danios there to suck up all the food.
The peacock eels with need to be fed with a turkey baster, using defrosted bloodworms and possibly brineshrimp. You'll feed them about every other day. They love to eat, so as soon as they smell it they'll come out. Just be sure to feed the other fish while/right before you feed the eels.
You can add shrimp, but be aware the eels may possibly eat them. I've got a peacock with some kuhli loaches and ADFs and it hasn't touched any of them, but you never know.
Hope this helps!
