I have these two together in a 20gL. The Blackbelt is in there just until he gets at least another 2" on him. (He's about 2" now) The convict, a stripped female is probably 3". I've had her for about 8 months and she has quit growing. Before I put her in this tank she was in a 55g and just never has gotten any bigger, and she was the smallest one in that tank, hence the reason I put her in the 20g. I recently added some cave like stuff to the tank. The con has been staying in this barrel looking decoration so I added something more for the BB. Well, the con took that over as well as her barrels so I added another cave type thing to the tank and she has taken over that too!
She chases the poor bb relentlessly. I really don't want the con to kill him but he's too small to go in either of my other large tanks without facing the same problem I have now or becoming dinner.
Should I remove the additional caves or wait a while longer to see if she finally picks one allowing the BB to have a space of his own? I just put this stuff in about 3 days ago.
The only other thing in the tank are 2 feeder goldfish I put in hoping they would spread out some of the aggression.
Suggestions?
