most of my tanks are crowded enough, this may not be possible, but I'd like to develop a feeder colony of two in a few of my tanks... my nano tank would be the easiest, but I'd like to on one of my bigger tanks... lots of hiding places, and large root balls for micro fauna habitat, in most tanks... I'm trying to establish neo shrimp in a few tanks right now, but I'm thinking smaller critters... seed shrimp or??? looking for suggestions to try...

I've had daphnia set up and go for months in small tanks (5s and 10s) with pairs of small Aphyosemion killies. Springtails have flourished on duckweed, and I've had cyclops and other small beasts - in very lightly stocked tanks with small stomached fish. In crowded tanks, I suspect your chances would drop fast.

Embrace detritus of all kinds :fish:

Thick leaf litter, Botanicals of all sorts. Stop cleaning completely. Cultivate biofilm and algae. And a lots of plants.

Wait until the tank looks awful and drop a commercial culture blend in... Like copepods, ostracods, amphipods, rotifers, detritus and various worms.

Feed very sparingly and aim for a self containing low nitrate environment with loads of decomposing matter, tons of oxygen and strong surface disturbance.

Maintaining stable water conditions, with a good content of carbonates is preferable.
