For 3 years I had this 10gal planted with a beta that just died.
I took all the plants out and i'm building a stone wall with stones and silicone. It's going to take up about 1/4 to 1/2 of the tank and have lots tunnels.
I'm looking for a single fish that will be OK single that likes a rocky environmet with caves. Or if I had to I could get pair of somethings.

Cichlids would be the way to go, though I don't know which one would stay small enough for that tank. :/

How about some dwarf puffers?

Not much to choose from if you want a single fish, very few should be kept alone in such a small tank.

Maybe you could go for some shell dwelling cichlids? Or something along those lines?

I am afraid I don't agree with any of you. :/

Most cichlids (other tan rams at a big push) would be too big/messy/aggressive for a 10 gallon. Puffers are also too aggressive, you could maybe have one dwarf but plants would not do well with them.

Rams are a bad idea IMO because Bryan has already said that he's put lots of rock in that takes up space and volume and 2 rams is at a push as I said. Aso, ph would change with the rocks and rams like soft water.

Shellies, although are small (some anyway) are very aggressive and should not be in any less than a 20gallon.

Rams can breed in an open 10 gallon, but as for being kept in a ten, I agree with CS.

So there are none that will stay small enough, eh? Not that anyone on here knows of?

Rams would be pushing it . . .

The only South American cichlids that would have a decent chance in that tank would be apistogramma species. Apistogramma Cackootoides stay rather small and are not that aggressive, also are pretty readily available.

I think dwarf gourami species might not be bad either. Sparkling gouramis would do ok in that tank I think. I have some full grown licorice gouramis that are shy of an inch long. ;)

I was thinking about a a puffer....
If I did get a dwarf puffer, and maybe use less rocks, could it be happy?
I was going to use my 20 long for a puffer, if I can get them here. But if I could put him in a 10, that would free up my 20 for another idea I have.

couldnt you get a small group of corys, maybe 3 :/

I would keep the use of the rock wall to a minimum, maybe you could use the idea better in the twenty gallon, but you did say you had an idea for that tank too so....

I know there are little gudgeons, those peacock ones I think, that stay pretty small, but I know nothing about them really, so don't know if one could go in there. The oddball forum would know for sure. And they really know their puffer stuff.

Thanx for the ideas, some really should be done in a 20, but I'm getting another one of those in a month or so.
All these ideas make me want to get 1/2 dozen 20's.

blind cave fish or ,

Dwarf puffers , maybe something else of the dwarf variety

your losing a lot of your water volume, Rams are your only choice and these will not be entirely happy. I'd seriously think about a bigger tank or maybe get a few corys etc as mentioned above
