Hey, my take is almost a year old now, and up until about 2 weeks ago, it was always crystal clear. Its a 37 gallon, with a canister filter, and live plants.

About 2 weeks ago, I woke up to a cloudy tank. Not only was it cloudy, but if I drained some, it had a green tint to it. I drained some water, and did a little gravel clean, and sucked up any dead leaves floating around. After I added the fresh water, the tank was much clearer for a few hours, then again regained its green tint. I have been trying everything to get my tank clear again, and honestly, have no idea what is going on. In terms of the water, when I test it, its in the parameters of where it should be for the type of fish.

I have a magnum canister, and just added the Micron filter today, hoping that will help clear it up, but I really am dumbfounded. What's a but un nerving is the green tint, it makes everything look horrible in the tank, since everything kind of has a green haze.

I have a low tech set up, but recently bought Excel Flourish to help with a little of the needs for Co2. Is it possible that might be creating the cloudiness? I seem to be having some algae on the glass, and what not as well. I am just looking for some answers please :).

Also, as a note, I have only had live plants since January, so that is also new to me.

Thank you!

As you say the cloudiness has a green tint, it'll almost certainly be algae of some sort. You could try doing a total black out for three days; you need to cover the tank completely and not let any light in at all; don't even feed the fish in that time.

Wow, sorry for the delay.

Apparently it seems to have been an Algae bloom, and the micron filter seems to have resolved it. I guess my question is what might have caused this? Where the tank is located, there is barely if any direct sunlight (same place almost a year). The temp has been the same for about 4 months or so, and I haven't increased their food levels at all, so is there anything that might have caused this?

Thank you!
