Hi

Im doing a course and I have completely forgotten how to subtract a percentage, I would be gratefull if anyone knows how.

£5500 - 2.5%
£3400 - 2.5%
£1800 - 2.5%

I presume you've got a calculator and you want the answer of 5500-2.5% as opposed to how much 2.5% is?

Assuming yes to both, easiest way to the answer is to invert the percentage to get your final answer.

100%-2.5% = 97.5% then convert to a decimal (divide by 100)

Therefore 5500-2.5% is really 5500 x 0.975 = 5362.50

You can check this is right by doing 5500 x .025 = 137.50 to get your reduction, then 5500 - 137.5 = 5362.50

HTH

To subtract it, first find out what 1% of the total is by doing the following:

5500/100=55. So 55 is 1%.

Next, multiply that by 2.5 to give 2.5%:

55x2.5=137.5

Do the same for the others and you've got your anwsers :)
