Substrates

Hi, i just wanted to see if anyone recommends any substrates for anubias and swords. This tank will also have central american cichlids, and i didnt really want to use sand. Cheers Angus

Anubias are generally tied onto bogwood or rocks so nothing special required for substrate. Swords will do fine in gravel but would benefit from some root tabs for nutrients. Both will benefit from dosing the water with an off the shelf plant fertiliser, such as Tropica Plant Nutrition+ (TPN plus).

Anubias do not have to be tied to objects, but many people do. You can plant anubias, but just make sure you do not bury the rhizome as it may rot.

Do you guys reckon that Seachem Onyx Gravel would be safe to use with central american cichlids. Cheers
