:D Hi now have 99% of components for new fot, but in all the excitement i forgot to ask how deep would be reccomended for the substrate and what should i use, i intend to cycle my tank using uncured live rock.

Many Thanks

I would get 2 to 3 inches of live sand, put in the live rock and let it run for a month or two. Do weekly water changes and test your water every week. You should be good to go after that. :D

I would not do that....Just put your skimmer and heater in their. some people like to add MUD in their sumps but it's not for a beginner. Good luck and post some pic's :D

use live sand by all means but be carfull, if the sand dosn't get turned over enough, this could lead to anerobic areas in the sand and this can cause hydrogen sulphide to build up. I know live sand is very popular in the U.S.A and some other countries but in the UK and europe, most people go for a fine skattering of coral sand or coral gravel. before you decide, check the price as you may have a shock

good luck

ste :)
