yo i have got a juwel rekord 60 (15uk) in my bedroom about 2 months ago i stripped it down because of the knowledge i have learned from this forum. however i have a few questions :look: firstly i woould like to use silicia sand as a substrate but am going to use 5cm mix of laterite and gravel underneath will this be ok. secondly i still have my juwel corner internal and i hate the look of it so i wonder if any of you know of any externals for that size tank that are almost silent cheers :fun:

Have a look at the Fluval 105! reliable filter that doesnt cost the earth!

Yeh laterite would work ok but if you can afford it there are other substrate that would work 'better' like the tetraplant substrate, or eco-complete, but that might ruin the look.

As to a filter I can highly recommend the eheim classic 2211, I had to get mine ordered in from Germany but it was worth it and at a round 40quid is a complete bargain for an external. Shop around that link I've given you probably isnt the cheapest.
