Well yeah, I switch my tank over to black sand, I'm extremely happy with it.
I have a layer of flourite black sand capped with 1 1/2 bags of tahitian moon sand.
All in all not too bad to wash which was good. I personally thought the tahitian moon sand seemed nice and soft but the mts don't seem to want to bury in it...so...not sure on that yet.
Eithways the rams are happy and looking AMAZING :D can't wait to get pics of them today.
I also put a black background on, it's a bin liner that I 'oiled' on and then stuck with tape.

Anyhoo, onto the casualty, the box I put the fish in for the day had a filter in it (fluval 3+). And it was full of media, but my male honey gourami somehow squeezed his way in and then got stuck...I felt awful and was in tears for quite awhile. I felt so so guilty it's unbelievable.

Anyways, at least the tank does look really good...it'd be horrid if my lil guy had died in vain.

Pics will be up later when I put the lights on and finish planting.

It sounds FAB! Cant wait to see piccys too :hyper: Sorry to hear about the gourami hon, accidents do happen though xx

Excuse the fact it's cloudy, that's just cause I had to finish replanting.

Colours are pretty much accurate except you cant see the amazingly neon lips as well as you can in the tank.

A poor attempt at getting one in focus.

^^ My latest additiond were 4 Cherry Shrimp...oh and a little stowaway (see next picture)

Wally.jpg

^^ Where's wally....(in the black circle). Wally is a 3mm long cherry shrimp, accidently added to the bag with the other 4 at the fish shop. I'm glad I noticed him cause if he was in the main tank I reckon he's be sucked up for sure. I mean obviously if/when the cherrys breed some will get sucked up, but I couldn't just chuck this guy in knowing that. He's now living in a 4l container in my room with about 1l of water and a long stick of wood cover in java moss and java fern. I really hope it's enough for him to feed on cause I really don't know what to feed such a little thing.

real good. just wondering, are they bolivian rams, or another type of ram?

thanks

hope you do realize, that in spite of the exotic, wild-sounding names, the substrate is a pure factory-made synthetic, in no way connected to either thailand, nor moon, nor sand. i liked your previous tank better.

lol, everythings synthetic nowadays, i also liked the lighter sand better, though it doesnt look bad how it is.

how big are those bolivians? mine dont have those long trailing fins yet.

I find that they come with age, my female Mikrogeophagus ramirezi has just started to get the trailing fins.

The tanks really looking good curiosity :)

i cannot remember your other tank, chances are ive seen it but i think this looks pretty good anyway, luv you fish, the bolivian rams...wow i think i need to get a new tank :) :hyper:

First good job on the switch. I am thinking about something similar. I wonder if you will like this better than the white sand when it comes to cleaning it. Other thing is that this moon sand looks a bit like sharp gravel. Would this be appropriate for corys? I was thinking about attempting a change to black sand as well.
