Well guys and girls, I thought I would just post this topic in the hope it makes me feel a bit better, but somehow I doubt it!!!

Every year around Oct / Nov some friend and myself have an anual pilgrimage to Chilliwack BC Canada to Sturgeon and salmon fish. We have been doing this trip for many years now and it by far the best fishery (possibly) in the world. I have been looking forward to this trip since about two days from returning last year. We all have very good friends out there now as we have been going for many years and it is just as good to catch up with old friend as the fishing. Anyway Today Zoom airlines went bust, this was our airline of choice and all flights had been paid for in full (around £450 each). These were paid on credit card so I hope we can reclaim the money (not holding my breath though!).

Does anybody know any other budget airline which fly to Canada from the UK? Not sure there will be any cheap flights at the minute due to the current economic climate. Might just have to postpone the trip this year  :(

Oh well I'm sure everything happens for a reason, guess I will have to wait an extra 12 months!!!!!!

For any keen anglers out there I can highly reccomend the Fraser river, Harrison River and their tributaries. Sturgeon fishing is like carp fishing on a grand scale. The largest our group has caught to date was 8'2" but 12footers have been caught in recent years. Also the fly fishing is second to none out there (I'm not really into fly fishing but I give it a go when I'm out there)

Anyway not sure if this has made me feel better about my current predicament, but if there are any UK anglers interested in joining the trip next year then let me know. It really does make the trip affordable to an individual if you can join a group, otherwise you have to hire the boat and guide by yourself which would be 4x more expensive! (hopefully no more airlines will go bust between now and then!!!)

Thanks for letting me vent some steam,

Bricko :/

Awwwwwwwwww that's too bad :(
I actually saw my first sturgon last month, I can't imagine catching one of those big guys! I'm in Canada and the only airline I know of that 'crosses the pond' is Air Canada..but I wouldn't call their prices good.

oh man, heard about that in the paper this morning, you must b gutted. sure you'll get your money back but i guess it's more about weather you can now go on the trip if you can't find other affordable flights.

i am sure you can find a fight somewhere as its late it wont be cheap i would think.

CUSTOMER ANNOUCEMENT

Zoom Airlines sincerely regrets to advise its customers that it has suspended operations with effect from 19:00 hrs on Thursday 28 August 2008. Both Zoom Airlines Inc and Zoom Airlines Ltd, the Canadian and UK airlines, have started administration proceedings in their home countries.

All Zoom flights have been cancelled and aircraft grounded.

For customers who have future travel plans involving a Zoom flight for which reservations and payment have been made, you should refer to your credit or debit card company to apply for a refund.

We have set out details of other airlines who operate the same or similar routes to those flown with Zoom in the hope that this may assist you in making alternative travel plans to replace the flights that you had booked with Zoom.

Yes finding affordable flights this late in the day is looking like an impossible mission MW. Guess on a brighter note I will have some refunded £ to spend on my fishtanks :)

Guess I will have to look at old pictures from last year to tide me over until next year!

Gutted :(

Best alternative I can give you is get some dive gear on and go up to Darrington (near Doncaster) or Capernwray and go looking for their Sturgeon. They are only about 4-5 foot, but I wouldn't recommend taking a fishing rod to a dive site  unless you lube up first and know a good proctologist to help you remove it ;)

Indeed I am :)

Legend has it, that tt bent over to get a good luck the last time a virgin got married in there, it'll straighten up next one does as it'll thinks it's normal ;)

t'Egypt is good, £ for £ it's probably as good as it gets. There are more spectacular places, but they cost an aweful lot more.

If I wasn't so sh17 scared of being eaten by a shark that is! Damn you Spielberg!!!!!!! :hey:

If you saw sharks, you'd be in more danger of me killing you out of jealousy
