:grr: well I have this love/hate affair with this pet store. I love to hate it. Anyways he is always overpriced and claims he has the best fish anywhere and I dont normally frequent this place(lately because his has become overpriced) except to get pygmie cories. Well after going in to check out their bettas (they do have crowns but at 25 bucks a piece :S ) I noticed he had betta max. :kana: I thought I need to get some and have some on hand for future problems since I only have a few antibiotics / misc. on reserve.
SO i was gonna' buy 3 packs @ 5.99 to have plenty on hand , looked at the expiry date and noticed 1/2004  ok lets looks at others and sure enough all the way back to 2002 on the dates  Normally this guy isnt all bad and has knowledge of fish you wouldnt believe and has countless awards for breeding and such. SO I proceed to tell him that the medicine expired as in no good, kaput , worthless etc..... He proceeds to tell me "It is perfectly fine , if it doesnt turn brown that medicine is good. I treated some last week with it." My wife is a pharmacist and helping her study in college I know a few things about medicine just from learning from her and helping her study.

It has an expiration date for a reason, because the medicine isnt as strong after a certain point, the beneficial medicine dies off after the estimated date. So the medicine is probably now weaker, worthless or even harmful, since it is old. I know this guy is a tight wad by his prices and by the fact he wanted to sell me some gravel one time he was throwing away anyway. SO I thought it might be time to see if I could mess with him. I asked if I can purchase the medicine at half price. (Knowing I would not purchase that crap or even take it if he gave it to me) "No, it is still good" he said. Can I purchase at 25% off snce expired. "Nope" was his reply. Mind you I have shopped in this store since 1995 and have introduced about 25 to 30 people to this store that have become good customers until he pissed them off.

So no I am wondering if he even thinks of me as a good customer anymore? :sly: "how about 50 cents off?" I asked. He looked mad now , because he can tell I am messing with him. I then tell him that he needs to remove the product and replace with fresh and I will start purchasing from him even if it is over priced. He told me he didnt need to since it was fine. I told him fine let me pay for the female betta I found and I would leave. What a jerk. :grr: I felt like punching him in the face. Anything for the almighty dollar. To him a one time sell of 50 bucks, is more important than a frequent customer that buys a little at a time. I have seen it time after time. I will stop ranting now. Thanks.

Geeze, lovely owner. If I went into Aquarius or Aquatropicale and said that, they'd immediately remove the offending item.

While Aquatropicale may not do the best things for their fishies, if someone so much as mentions there is a problem, they take care of it.. and they have good prices.

My husband and I got into an arguement about fish care in fish shops last night, actually (okay, read debate.) He was like "well, I can understand why the poor betta get treated so bad, it is hard to care for 200 little cups."

And I retorted with "And if they had been caring for the cups while flapping their tongues, they would have been done by the time I had left the store.."

(Talking about Aquatropicale and their poor fishies.)

To say the least, I won. :)

Poor fishies! But, that is okay. I keep shoppping there because they do get amazing fish.. if the fish is healthy coming from there, he is obviously a little trooper. :)
