What a fool I am :*) . I did a water change on Saturday. I unplugged the heater as I normally do to avoid it getting damaged.

Anyway for the last two days I have noticed fish flicking. I know the water parameters are ok (yes I should have checked them with hindsight but we are all wise after the event). So on going to bed tonight I added some treatment thinking it could be early symptoms of disease. I dropped in the treatment and on rinsing the dosing cup in the tank water I noticed the tank water felt cold. When I looked at the heater plug I had forgot to plug it back in AAAARGGHH! What an idiot. So I normally have the temperature at 80°F and it has dropped to 74°F. I have plugged the heater back in and hopefully the temperature will gradually rise now. I am so upset about this. Does anyone think I will lose any fish? Could I do anything else to help them? I was thinking of adding warm water but I was worried that this sudden fluctuation might stress the fish even more. Will adding the treatment have harmed the fish under the circumstances?

Please help

You should be fine....was the water you added of a similar temp. to the tank?? If so it would of decreased slowly to 74f...which isn't to cold.

Yes, the water change water was the same temp as the tank water (it may have been slightly warmer).

I have come downstairs this morning to look at the temp and it is back up to 79°F so hopefully should be back to normal very soon. Does anyone know if this could have harmed my fish?

I suppose on the bright side it could have encouraged my Corys to spawn!!

you need to raise the temp slowly back up. a few degrees at a time, not all at once. raising the temp up fast may stress the fish and result infish loss. keep an eye on the fish.

Temperature doesn`t sound like it dropped too low, however, keep an eye out for whitespot unless the treatment you gave them was already for whitespot.
You shouldn`t get a problem but there is always a risk.
Good luck.

Oh no! :(

I think the temperature rise was just under 1°F per hour. Is this too much?

Can anyone advise on any reconciliatory methods I can use to ease the situation?
