A few days after I got my LR, at the front of the glass, I can see little holes in the sand. They seem to be in 1 area around the live rock, and although I've never seen anything moving around in the holes, I know that something made them. They're about a half an inch down in the sand, and are range from about .5 mm to 1.5 mm.

If its pods, I know thats good. If its nitrogen gas, is that good or bad? What caused it, and if its bad, how can I get rid of it and prevent it. My sand bed is probably 1.5" or 2" deep in most areas, is that too deep?

Sometimes you can get a little bit of 'denitrification'. It's a good thing. SH

O ok, well, there's hardly any of them, so it'll be fine, probably. I'll just make sure it doesn't get too bad.

If your sand bed is operating correctly then you will find little pockets like this, its usually the sign of bristleworms, pods and gases. these are all good things and if your sand is shallow enough then there is no concern as things like fish and other creatures will turn the sand over and keep it fresh

good to be back SH :kana:

Been reading recent threads, you have done a great job here! Solid and sound advice my friend
