I have an unfiltered 2.5 and just did a 30% water change on Saturday - siphoned and all. There is this cloud-like film laying on top of the gravel, sort of white with a slight brownish hue. Anybody know what this accumulation is? I was going to siphon it out when I get home from work.

Hi IttyBittyBetta :)

Hummm...... Sounds like food going bad.

Are you the only one who puts food in the tank? Any little kids in the house?

out of all of my betta I have maybe 3 who get that too, after much MUCH pondering on it I've come to the conclusion that it has SOMETHING to do with their spit, this is only my opinion mind you, but in my experience you can clean & clean and they'll still have it back within two days

They are fed during the day when I am out. Excess food? Can they live on ove feeding per day?

I know that YOU wouldn't over feed them, IttyBittyBetta!

But that's just the first thing I would rule out. In some homes everyone who passes a tank feeds the fish and that's where someone could run into problems. :/

....then a little kid gets hold of the can and ...oops!

You know what I mean?

I guess I need a sign that says DO NOT FEED THE FISH. I just finished siphoning out all the stuff. Used up half the water. I got Alpha a new 1 gallon acrylic bowl with pink gravel and a plastic shiny plant. Looks like he doesn't know what to do with the extra space. :)

Oh, it sounds so nice, IttyBittyBetta! :D I'll bet the pink gravel really shows off his colors!

Yes, the pink gravel contrasts with his natural color. I think I'll make it a project to do that with the three kings. :)
