i was wondering if anyone can tall me about the striped talking catfish?
i am interested in purchasing one. are the easy to look after?
i have read that they reach around 13 cm is this true?
and that they are omnivores/carnivores?
would one be suitable with a bristle nose catfish, a peppermint bristle nose and a pictus catfish? (the pictus catfish likes other catfish aslong as its not one of its own kind)
and any other infomation would be much apreaciated.
o and wat tank size would all these guys be suitable in?

thankyou in advance ally.

i was also wondering about the scarlet pleco....
i read they get around 35cm?
are they stricktly carnivorouse?
and can i put one in with my common pleco and two angels?

thanks again ally.

The striped talking catfish needs a 3'x1'x1' for a pair with their own seperate caves. They will eat earthworms, prawns, bloodworm but they should take pellets. Its probably better to hand feed them prawns or worms so you can check what they are eating. If you are just keeping it with the pictus and bristlenoses it may be a boring tank to look at so id look out for some shoaling midwater dwellers. They will grow about 15cm, with exeptional fish reaching 18cm. They are very peaceful, but will eat small slender fish (about 6cm when the catfish are fully grown.
The scarlet plec grows about 25cm and needs prawns and other meaty foods to eat. You can keep it with angels, but keep the plec well fed. This should stop it rasping on the angels for mucus, which with the plecs razor sharp teeth could be disastorus. It needs a 4' tank.

I had a spotted one. when i had to net him to change tanks, he used you creak/talk to me.. Can't imagine what he was saying, but i think it was rude.

Great looking fish, he was my missus favourite and she called him fat boy. Well compared to a cardinal tetra he was. The only problem is that he was extremely nocturnal, so never really got to see him that much.

In summary, great fish if you see them.

thankyou for all your help.
unfortunantly i cant find a scarlet pleco here, the only ones i can find are gold spot plec $25-$30, sail fin plec $19.95, chocolate plec $25.95, clown plec $45.85, and marble butterfly $81.40. so im thinkin bout gettin one or two of those. did have my heart set on a scarlet tho.
but i did find a stripped talking catfish, i want one so bad but its $89.95, and i know for a true fish fanatic thats not that much but i am only starting out in catfish and would like more experience before i pay that much for a fish. i have alot to think about. thanks again everyone for all your help.

i have narrowed it down to these plecos:
mayb the clown pleco to go in with my pictus n bristlenoes? as he is the smaller of the choices.
and a chocolate and sailfin to go in wit my common plec?
i was thinking the gold spot but i cant find any infomation on it throught that catfish website, does it come under a different name? its not the gold nugget is it? they are beautiful but i heard they dont get over the transpotation real well and this perticular petshop that is selling them is a fair travel.
i think i will give the talking catfish a miss for now.
so what does everyone think of this idea? please let me know.

AHHH! $85! I have 2 and they cost me $7 (usa) each, they do get around 15cm,but they also get very fat heads and mid-sections.They need a protein rich food, but they will scavange and eat almost anything includeing any fish small enough to fit in there mouths, dead tankmates and fry that aren't fast enought to evade them. They are nocturnal, and like to stay hidden most of the time, but i've run acrossed a few that don't fallow the rules and hang out during the day. Also,if you do get one,get two. Altho they normally don't interact much they do NOT like to be without another of their kind and will almost always have a shortened life span without a freind.......I wouldn't recomend haveing them in anything smaller than a 30 gallon tank. When kept happy and healthy these fish can live for a very long time.I know someone who has a a spoted one for over 15 years.Like most catfish they are very sensitive to medications, amonia, and hard metals in the water.but other than that they very hardy fish a rarely become sick.

i found a place today that sells them for $60, wich is the cheapest here that i know of, i realy realy love the striped rapheal, i thnk i am gonna get it just not right now.

cool :) I have 2 and they are really cool fish.I hope you enjoy yours as much as i do mine. :)
