Ive done alot of reading on these guys but every site says something different. Ive read one site saying they get 4 inches and another said 10. Any solid info on these guys would be great thanks.
7 or 8 inches is the max you will usually get out of them, ive never seen one bigger. The are nocternal to the point where if you dont feed them at night they will starve when young (unless you have a tank where lots of food particals get missed by the other fish so they can come out after lights out and do a clean up), i have 3 spotted raephels and im lucky if i see them a dozen times a year. They can be combined with large aggressive fish providing there is a suitable sized cave for them ti hide in by day, they should not be housed with very small fish which may be eaten and need to be kept in at least a pair and prefferably a small group.
I have a spotted raphael, i see him every day, he getting quite big ow he now over 3 inches, when i got him he was about a inch. Like cfc said no small fish in tanks as they will become a meal. Same goes for banjo catfish, no small fish in tank with them or they will become a meal. both species are great . Good luck with the rephael. They max out at abou 6-8 inches.
Mine are approximately 6½" and 4". The larger one is over 6 years old, while the smaller one is nearly 2 years old. I see the younger one several times a week, he loves shrimp pellets and algae tabs. The older Striped Raphael isn't as fickle....he'll eat anything in his path during one of his bi-weekly 90 second feeding frenzies.
