Anyone know if they will tolerate a bit of salt in the water?

Koda jr persuaded me that we needed a striped raphael and I'm trying to decide where he'd be happiest.I have a tank with just cories that has no salt. And I have other tanks with fish that like just a little salt.I'm inclined to think he'd go with the cories but one or two of them are rather small and I've read that they are peaceful but may eat smaller fish.So I wondered how small is too small for a fish to be safe?

Thanks

Koda

Well, my Raphael is in with several small neon tetras and peppered cories and they've been fine together, so I don't think that should be a problem. Just remember to feed the Raphael after the lights have gone out otherwise he won't show himself.

Since I wasn't sure,I tucked him in for the night with the bigger fish. He's quite a happy camper so far, sharing the log with my dragon

Striped and spotted raphaels are social fish and should always be kept with a few of their own kind, when kept alone you really will never see them.

Unless you dont mind the neons going mssing i would suggest moving them or the raphael, i have witnessed my 3 taking whitebait and river shrimp with no problems whatsoever, its surising how big that little mouth is. Remember the spotted raphael's will hit 6" and the striped 8" so they are not small fish.

I wouldnt have said its a good idea putting salt with any catfishes....

That's why my first inclination is to put him with my cories...as long as he won't eat them :p

But I'm not familiar with all the types of catfish...so I wanted to check.

That's what I was trying to explain to Koda jr when he wanted one. Most likely he'll go in with my cories and I'll go back for 2 or 3 more. They had quite a few.I wasn't that sure about getting one because they were all clustered at the back corner of the tank at the lfs....nowhere to hide, poor fishies

But in my tank he is quite a different fellow, happily exploring his surroundings and then zooming back to the hideout. He came out with the goby for bloodworms :p

Thanks everyone.

ah ha i didn't know that.

i have a spotted one which i can see in the log and he come out about 2twice every few days to pick up some food.

i turn 1 set of lights off then he usually comes out as the other light has a old bulb and is quite dimm.

I'll have to get him some buddies, will striped and spotted mix? I'll have to order some in!!

my 1 spiked me!! wrapped it's tail tightly round my finger!!
