Saw tis guy at the LFS today. he is 2 inches. I loved the way he looked, a little scary. the lfs said that he would get along ok with my tankmates. when i got hom i read up on them and turns out they love the taste of danios. while i wont be to concerned if he snacked on THEM, ill be pissed if he messes with the mollies. so far he has left everyone alone. the corys stay on there side of the tank anyway. any opinions? im contemplating taking him back, even though hes the coolest looking fish i have right now. i named him Morbius. -_-

I have a lil one in with danios. He never goes near them. I suspect he will when he's bigger and older though. But by then the danios will be approaching old age so I'm not too worried really. Besides which, I also have spare tanks if need be.
Mollies are somewhat bigger then the average danio so they should be pretty safe unless ill or truly unfortunate.
Hugs,
P.

They hide, ALOT. But other than that, a good community fish with anything of platy size or bigger..

Just dont buy it then complain if you hardly see it.

Platydoras costatus are a a member of the Doradid family (Thorny Catfish) that are somewhat social (like Pimelodus pictus and are said to do better in groups. Since I upped the numbers from 1 to four I am seeing mine a lot more.

Maximum size is 8" though they are extremeley slow growing and will take a long itme to get there (I have one that is around 5 or 6 years old and is just about pushing 4.5 to 5 inches).

You should be a little careful with them for while not as predatory as a Pimeloid, they will cruise the tank at night eating any fish they come across that will fit in their mouth. As Ben said, anything larger than a platy should be fine for a long time, if not indefinately.

Heh, since posting the above I've actually moved the danios out of that tank. Not because of any trouble. More because I prefered them not living with my lady bettas.
I do rarely see mine but since no one local seems to have these lil guys it could be a while until I find anymore.
Hugs,
P.

well he still hasnt messed with anyone. keeps to himself. i have the timer set to turn the right side light of the tank off. he comes out then, but stays in the dark half of the tank. this guy rocks. FYI< DO NOT rearrange plants that he might be hiding in. or you might get stuck accidentally. just something ive learned recently. :*) :p
