I have a 55 gallon tank, with two striped peacock eels, and I plan to add a bgk in a couple weeks once my eels are completely settled (they've been in there for about two weeks already) It's just them in there right now, there is also a banjo catfish though. I want to put in a bgk as I mentioned, but if I do, then it will be nocturnal fish. And I don't want my tank so plain. So my question is, what other fish should I put in there that will be out during the day, not aggressive, and pretty attractive. I don't want anything too small, nothing too big. I don't want gourami, or tetras, I guess I want something pretty cool like the other fish but that will be out during the day and be middle to top swimmers. What do you guys think?

BGK is a no no in a 55 gallon.

why not try an African knife fish instead? They stay smaller than the BGK. Also you need to be careful in terms of food competition. With the knifefish eating off the bottom they will most likely find and eat all the food before the spiny eels can especially with the peacock species as ive seen them being a bit pickier than other spiny eel species.

Right, I'm in the process of actually building a 240 gallon, which should be done in a few months, I would buy a bgk that is no mre than 4 inches. So that's not an issue :} But I just don't know what else I should put in there with them for now so its' not so boring!

I would recommend either a few leopard ctenopoma, or a group of rainbow fish.

OH! Leopard ctenopoma is a pretty cool lookin fish! Do you know how many I could safely put in my tank without overstocking or causing problems?? And I'm not finding much for rainbow fish.
I was thinking something cool as well as MAYBE a few glass catfish. I know they don't move around much, which I'm fine with.

The leopards I've had weren't aggressive towards anything they couldn't swallow whole, including each other. I would think four, would be just fine in your tank. I wouldn't put in the glass cats. They are very difficult to keep. Instead if you can find the African glass cats a group of those would do great.

Haven't quite made up my mind yet. Still debating. But yeah, I had some glass cats before, well one. My LFS told me it would be fine by itself. This was back when I first started but obviously I lost him. Didn't ever see him eat. So if I did get them it probably be a group of like 5 or 6. Also, I have another tank which has a bunch of shrimp and bumblee gobies. They are freshwater ( I know most are brackish) It took me a long time to find them, because I wanted to make sure, I don't know the scientific name but there is a species that is fresh. I wanted to put them in there but I'm not quite sure because if I do put a bgk then it will eat them I'm sure eventually. I was also thinking maybe 3 or 4 pictus cats but that's also more fish that stay on the bottom, and I want some middle to top dwellers. Any other ideas!?

Not as large as most catfish, I think like 8 inches is the biggest. From what I remember. But like I said, I am building a really big tank that hopefully I'll have EVERYTHING for in like a year.

So are you using the 55 gallon as a grow out tank then? with a few permanent residents?

Probably now that I think about it. I was going to sell it but I guess it makes sense to keep it as a grow out.
