Hi
I know straight away that the replies I get to my question will be in the negative, but I have two striped loaches in my aquarium and one is definatly pregnant. Looking around different sites the information about these fish is very limited so all I know is that they are egg layers. Should I move them out of my tank or leave them and hope for the best? :-(

Female loaches are generally bigger and fatter than the males who are smaller and slimmer. Have lots of plants in the tank and leave them be. If they are happy then they might breed and you will find young loaches the next time you do a water change. Big water changes and temperature fluctuations can encourage them to spawn. You are unlikely to see it happen but in a well planted tank without too many fish, some young will survive.

Leave them and hope for the best. It is not unheard of for loaches to become gavid (filled with eggs), but actual spawning is very, very rare.
