Went to visit the other lfs in town, and she had 4 of these in stock. They were almost full grown, beautiful fish! I asked about them, and was told that they will get along even with small fish because they are strictly herbivores and have small mouths. Got her to write down their name down so I could do more research on them. I would like to add this fish to my 55 gallon, once it is down fishless cycling. I plan on having in the tank: medium to large sized tetras, loaches, cories, a single angelfish, gouramis and plecos. Would I be able to include one in my tank? I've read a bit about them and apparently they can be nippy, but some say they are fine?
Also, I wasn't sure which board to post this is as I couldn't figure out what "handstanders" would classify as!
Oh, and I also bought 2 bandit cories (will add more once in proper tank) and 3 large ghost shrimp (my first shrimps ever!) and my first REAL plant (a crypt she called it?).

They are very nippy and I wouldn't keep them in a tank with something like angels.

BTW - it's 'headstanders' - not 'handstanders' :p and they are related to tetras so would go in the Characin section :).

Your tank actually sounds a little full, i wouldn't add anything else to it. But from what iv heard they are fairly peaceful and spend most of the daylight hidden from sight. Im sure one or two would be a great adition, but adding any more fish to your list may over stock your tank, then again you haven't said how many of each fish you were getting so i may be wrong.

Oops, I meant to put headstanders, really :p

Thats because I myself don't even know. If I see a fish I like, and if it can go wtih the current inhabitants that are in the tank, then I'll get it. I'm just saying that those are along the lines of what fish I plan on getting, but it could change. I think I'll skip out on one of these because I've read too many reports of them being nippy.
Thanks for the information.
BTW are albino cherry barbs rare?

I'm assuming the fish you are talking about is Anostomus Anostomus. They are great looking fish but are as you mentioned, nippy. Just figured I'd add that there is a smaller, less colorful, more peacful, relative to this fish called Anostomus ternetzi. I keep one in my 55 and he's completely peaceful but fairly shy. They stay a bit smaller and can be kept singly or in pairs. If you have the room and you can find a place that carries them you may be intrested.

I'd say albino cherries are uncommon - but not realy rare. They are lovely fish though - best kept as trios (1 male, 2 females) as, contrary to popular belief, they are not a schooling barb.

Yes, that is the fish that I am talking about (in the first pic). I'll look into getting the Anostomus ternetzi instead, thank-you for showing me this fish!

I should of picked up a trio of them, but both my 5.5 and 10 gallon are holding way too many fish that will go into my 55 gallon once cycled :X
