Hi everyone

well i have 2 budgies in a nice cage for them(i used to have an avary but someone let all the birds fly away so i sold it) and pidgeons usualy pass by and have a "chat" or try and get some food.well the other day my mother was looking at the cage and asked,"how did your budgie get out of the cage like that?" not knowing what she ment,i went to take alook out the window. and to my suprise,it wasnt my budgie but a stray one!. it probably flew over froma near by neighbour or something and decided to take refuge on top of our cage! well i tried to catch it but it flew off. but that was yesterday.today i came home and it was back!so i filled up a container of seed and a container of water for it and we decided to leae it instead of stressing it out or catching it! so it flys from a tree in our backyard and back to the cage for food and water and sometimes sleeps on the top!

well i managed to snap a quick shot of it before it flew back to the tree:

Do you have an extra cage that you could set up with food and water? If he is perching on yours, chances are he misses his own cage and wants in. You can probably just shut the door behind him if you catch him in there. Stray budgies don't do well with weather extremes, have trouble finding food, and are easy prey for hawks. You might want to check petfinder.com's missing ads and see if a blue budgie is missing from someone in your area.

It looks like an english budgie! :hyper:

Try to catch him for his own good, before he gets picked off by a crow or something :/

Just don't put him with your other birds incase he has mites or some other disease your birds can catch.

well at closer inspection i found out its a she. and we bought a breeding box for her that she nowlives in and water and food are right outside.and it also goes for a little fly around the backyard and then comes back.i dont think theres any way of catching it and for the meanwhile we will just leave it.because it seems very happy atm.

thanx for the suggestions and concern

beautiful little stray you've got visiting!

We got our latest budgie addition last fall by having someone rescue a stray. A business aquaintance asked if we'd be able to take in another budgie, turns out a friend of theirs had captured it in his backyard in September. He said he saw it flying with a flock of sparrows in the summer and this being the Frozen North there was no way the budgie was going to survive the winter.
He put a cage out with food and fresh water every day; it took weeks and weeks but eventually the birds got used to going in the cage for the food. One day he saw his chance, the budgie was in the cage alone and he closed the door. He didn't want to keep it as his family doesn't have the space so we took her in. Budgies are social, they prefer to be in a flock with other budgies and we already had four (it's a massive cage) so she fit right in! We've named her Sparrow and she's a real sweet heart.

wow. great story purple drazi

i used to have an avery(as said before) it was masive. i had about 20 budgies in at one time.it was so fun to watch them.they used to be in oen massive flock and bred them a few times too

but sadly while on holiday our neighbours(who were supposed to be taking care of them) left the door open and all flew out except the two i have now.the avery door broke so we sold it and found a biggish cage.and the two are happy now .laying eggs, but theyre never hatching.2but all is good now

this reminds me of my hubbys village years ago, a man used to release his flock of budgies in the summer and they would act like homing pigeons and come back to roost in the evening and spent the day in the trees and flying around the village. quite a sight for the north of england. :)
