Ok, so all of a sudden, after a nice big water change, my serpaes decided it would be cool to chase each other around like mad all morning. Theyr colours have gotten darker and each one of them is doing the chasing as well as being chased. It looks sort of malicicious, not so much playful, but ill try to get you all a video so you can evaluate for yourselves. Thanks guys!

It's probably spawning behaviour. A large water change is often used to trigger spawning in tetra species, especially if it's a couple of degrees cooler than the tank.

Sorry, not the best quality in the world. New camera...dont know how it works yet, but you get the gist of it atleast

Definitely spawning behaviour :) You won't get any fry in a community tank though.

Shall I move them to a breeding tank? Or is there lots of work involved in breeding these

scratch that. Theyr back to their usual shoaling. But im glad i got to experience this behavior!!! Would they have spawned if they were on their own and had a suitable place to lay the eggs?

They probably would, but you do really need a separate tank for breeding. They're not very hard to breed, but you need to stop the parents eating the eggs after spawning, and have very small first foods available for when the fry become free swimming.

That was some really aggressive spawning behaviour!

You have at least 2 big aggressive and dominant males in there, i would add 4-5 more females and you will find htat they will spawn more but be less aggressive about it! :good:
