Hi all. This is my first post, but I've been reading the forums for a few weeks and have learned a lot... I got a BN pleco yesterday from the LFS, about 3 inches and in good shape. He seems fine except that, once in a while, he'll pull his mouth away from the driftwood and just "suck" water. It went on this morning for about five minutes. Then he'll turn back to the driftwood or gravel. Is this normal?

I gave him an algae wafer last night and he ate some of it--he doesn't "look" hungry. He's in an established 20 gallon with four platies, plastic plants and some driftwood and various furniture. Zero ammonia, zero nitrite, normal range nitrate. PH 7.4 and temperature 76-78, same as LFS.

Thanks for any info. I love this little guy and don't want anything to happen to him!

Thanks for your reply, Jen. Yes, I have a Penguin hang-on filter and a bubble wand--I hope that's enough aeration. Maybe this is how some plecos sleep? Strange...

(Beautiful zebra, by the way.)
