:D Hello all :D

I currently have a 40 litre (10.5 US Gallon) tank

It is 6 weeks old and it now holds 2 prestilla tetra, 2 small barbs (not tiger), a sucker mouth catfish (small species), a baby angel fish and a beta fish

My water tests are perfect at the moment although i did have high nitrites a couple of weeks ago but regualr water changes have solved the problem and i was able to add more fish

I dont plan to for a couple of months but how many more could i add, i know im pushing it but have been told i have an excellent quality filtration system

Any ideas would be apreciated, i have been told 22 inches of fish????????????????

The maximum ammount of fish you can safely keep in that tank is 15",up to ten in the first 6 months and then 5 more after when the tank has matured.

The angel fish will grow too large for a 10g,minimum recomended size imo is 30g you may also have problems with the barbs attacking the angel and betta, all barbs are nippy and should not be kept with fish that have long or fancy finnage, there may also be aggressions beyween the angel and the betta.

You could have the best filtration in the world but what limits the ammount of fish you can have is O2 levels, water can only hold so much dissolved oxygen and overstocking rapidly depletes it especially in smaller tanks.

Hmm... Angels are really large fishes with their long fins and they need at minimun 45-50cm high aquarium. How many 30gal tanks with 45-50cm high have you seen?

For angels, atleast 200 liters when the high of tanks should be atleast 45-50cm (like 100cm*40cm*50cm = 200 liters).

No one can give any advice how many inches you can put into your tank, because fishes are different: some of them, like Angels don't swim alot than many other need alot of space, because they are good, fast swimmers. You should always study basic things about fishes you're going to buy.

1. adult size
2. need shoal?
3. bahaviour
4. how the fish fit in with others
5. water values

1-3 => tells you how large aquarium it needs.

Like very common clown loach (Botia macracanthus ). When you look this popular site: http://www.loaches.com/species_pages/botia...cracanthus.html, you see how people keep them fishes in small tank. Some one tells: "Love them loaches! I have six in a 40 gallon community tank."

Fishes adult size is over 30cm (>12") and usually grow little over 20cm in aquarium. It's a shoal fish too, so it's need friends :) And writer tells that his/her tank is 40 gallons (in uk: 181 liters = 100cm*40cm*45cm tank, in us: 151 liters = ~100*40*40). 6 big fishes in that tank??

So, you cannot only look inches. Think about that if you have 2 clown loaches in your tank (its 24" and probably fit in 22" advise). Would those two fishes be happy in your tank?

 Im very annoyed now, two of my local aquatics centres told me i could have angels

The actual  person who sold me the tank told me i could have 3 in there

At the time i was not as clued up as i am now, they also sold me a golden sucking loach but i took that back the day after because i read that it could grow to 10" and when gets older stops eating algae and terrorises aquairums

It just goes to show they will tell you anything to get a sale

Im in a bit of pickle now because i wont be able to afford a larger tank for a while

Any more advice of what to do nowwould be greatly appreciated

How long do angels take to reach full size??
