I'm getting a 55 gallon so im doing my research.
What do you reccomend for a 55 gallon?

Well no...why that spicific PH? Is that your locoal water?
You could do a African cichlid tank like me....
Lots of options, but when you put somthing down as spicific as that, wel....

tap water ph is 7.0

Guess it depends on what you like. Larger fish, smaller fish, a good mix of both? Community fish or aggressive? Schooling fish or fish that do better in pairs or alone?

What is the substrate? Any live plants?

a good mix of both
otherwise the topic is general
any kind

There are almost infinite combinations of fish that can form a mixed 55g community at pH 7. Give us SOMETHING to work with here...

Are there any fish in particular you like?
Any you really don't like?

Heres whats in my 55 gallon.
3 Dwarf Gouramis
3 Platys
3 Swordtails
3 Small marbel angels
1 3 inch pleco
3 black skirt tetras (not sure of the exact name)

I'm waiting for someone to tell me I'm overstocked...

i was wondering how hard would it be to make it a planted tnk>just wondering
That really depends on your goal, but the short answer is it isn't that hard to make it a planted tank. In fact, I would strongly encourage it, as healthy plants have so many benefits that an unplanted tank just can't match.

With just minimal lighting and no CO2 or fertilizing, you will still be able to grow plants, you just need to be selective. Chose hardy, low light plants like anubias, java fern, java most, and hygrophila species.

If you want a lush jungle or exotic red or flowering plants, you'll need a lot more information, planning, and money.

Either way, you may want to post something in the Planted Tank forum. People there will be happy to help you get started on the low-tech or high-tech route.

Do you know the wattage of your current light fixture?
