Edit: 100 ppm gh, 120 ppm kh, 7 ph

I have a brand new 60 gallon tank I'm starting up! It's horizontally long.

So just based off what I like I need recommendations for fish and I want a community tank

So let's say for this tank as a range of size

Neon tetras = extra small
Oscar = extra large

I typically like active fish but I like slower fish like bettas as well

I do like flowy fins as well as bright colors mostly.

But I love dark fish too

I think I just like pretty looking fish idk 🤣

I like small to medium-large fish or fish that do better in groups.

Nothing too messy or aggressive

No very advanced fish species please!

But those are just some ideas of what I like. But anything else is fine too

You know what would be a perfect bottom dwelling group?... I always recommend this fish... Maybe too much 😂... But with a huge 60G you could have a very large group of them... They are called peacock gudgeons. Super colorful and are kinda slow with smallish flowing fins. They have blues and yellows and oranges and sometimes red and pink... Every now and then you will see some green hues. They like to be at the mid and bottom levels.

I wish you luck on your tank!

It all depends on your water hardness really...which do you have?

What are the tank dimensions (length x width x height)?

What is the GH (general hardness), KH (carbonate hardness) and pH of your water supply?
This information can usually be obtained from your water supply company's website or by telephoning them. If they can't help you, take a glass full of tap water to the local pet shop and get them to test it for you. Write the results down (in numbers) when they do the tests. And ask them what the results are in (eg: ppm, dGH, or something else).

Depending on what the GH of your water is, will determine what fish you should keep.
Angelfish, most tetras, barbs, Bettas, gouramis, rasbora, Corydoras and small species of suckermouth catfish all occur in soft water (GH below 150ppm) and a pH below 7.0.

Livebearers (guppies, platies, swordtails, mollies), rainbowfish and goldfish occur in medium hard water with a GH around 200-250ppm and a pH above 7.0.

If you have very hard water (GH above 300ppm) then look at African Rift Lake cichlids, or use distilled or reverse osmosis water to reduce the GH and keep fishes from softer water.

I forgot to ask that... Oops... Yes, the PH and GH is very important. If you have soft water and a PH of 7-8 you can think about my previous recommendation

I was just looking at those in the store a few days ago and saw they were a peaceful fish and was interested actually!

I added the gh, kh, and ph at the top!

I believe the dimension are 39 L 20 h 18 w

mollies are nice

they can be
bright
dark, or any color really
they are medium-big
have long flowy fins
or have short fins

I really like gourami. I have a group of 5 pearl gourami in my 55, and they are a dream to watch. And very peaceful as well.
I have heard of pearls being really peaceful... They are on the list of fish I would love to keep someday! Pearl gouramis would look amazing in a nicely setup 60g

I agree on the pearl gourami! Everything I’ve heard about them is that they are peaceful. Stunning too! You could do some cories or a pleco or loaches as bottom dwellers. I’ve seen some beautiful long finned albino plecos

The tank is too small for Oscar cichlids.

The GH is too low for common livebearers like mollies, platies, swordtails and guppies.

If you want a male Betta splendens (Siamese fighting fish), get a 10 gallon tank for him.
