Hello fellow fish lovers,

My first post so please be nice. I've a 57 Gal tank and am looking to stock. Fishless cycle is underway so now time to start thinking about fish. The wife and I like Angelfish (doesn't everybody?) but my main criteria is to have a nice selection of community fish that will fill the tank at different levels (approx 4x3x1 (LxHxW)) and have nice colours as we like bright fish. Any suggestions gladly welcome.

Thanks
Dre

Hi welcome to the forum and the hobby! When you say fishless cycle are you using the products or pure ammonia?

In a 3 foot tall tank angels will be very happy :D With the tank only being a foot wide that limits a few of your choices as you need to make sure they can turn around properly so max size sticking to 5 inches long as a max.

Wills :)

I would go for a few bigger fish like cichlids (angels) and then a few shoals of smaller fish.
Maybe
2 angelfish (get 4 wait for 2 to pair and sell the others)
pair of keyhole cichlids or Laetacara dorsigera/Red-Breasted Acara
15 cardinal tetra or similar sized fish
15 corys
pair of bristlenose plecs or Suturisoma Aurem

sounds like you have got a similar tank to me. I went down the Barb route, but i wouldn't recommend that with an Angel.
I would agree with above, but maybe mix up your tetra a bit. I personally like a mix of slightly different fish, instead of one big group.

With a tall tank like that you could also perhaps consider rummy noses, scissors or some other slightly larger type of shoaling fish. There are quite a lot of the characins of the taller rounder body type also that might be considered, although you must always be careful of some of the nippier ones amongst these. One advantage of moving the individual fish size slightly bigger is that you don't have the worry of your angels eating them as treats at some very late stage after the angels have grown very large.

Are you sure it isn't 4x2x1? which is 60G (4x3x1 would be 90G)

For the tank I see a nice SA biotope (well what else  )

centrepiece:
2x Angels
4x Blue Rams

Dithers,
Top - 6x Hatchet fish
middle - 6x Cardinals, 6x Black neons, 6x Rummynose
Bottom - 2x Whiptails and 6x corydoras schwartzi

Thanks for the advice, certainly some interesting suggestions. I'm keeping my options open so will do some research into the species suggested.

Regarding the size of the tank once i include the thickness of the glass substrate etc it comes to about 57 galls!

:good:
