Stocking Quantities

I am setting up a 125Litre (roughly 30 gallon) tank, it will have 1 dwarf gourami, 1 male betta, 13 pygmy corys, 12 boras briggitae, 8 galaxy rasbora and 2 bolivian rams, it will have 2 filters. is that too much and do i need to change the quantities???

i wouldnt add a betta into the tank especially with the gourami. also can carefull of having tiny fish like galaxy rasboras with the rams as they may start to reduce in numbers once the ram gets to a good size.

2 filters is fine as long as the flow isnt overkill for the fish. tbh 1 filter will be more than enough on a small tank of 125L

people always say not to mix bettas and gouramis, but these have been together for over half a year and theyre both very easy going fish, i just have to make sure the rams are fairly relaxed too. The tank ive bought has an inbuilt filter but my old external one is so good i dont want to waste it, if its too much i will remove one. And thanks for the tip on the rasboras, im guessing that having a big shoal of them would protect them a little more??

to be honest I would not put rams, gouramis and bettas in the same tank, its a disaster waiting to happen, also them galaxy rasboras will start to disappear with that ram.

My Bolivians and dwarf gourami were mortal enemies and had to be separated into different tanks in the end.

Throw a betta into the mix and you're just asking for trouble there.

You also have a lot of tiny, tasty fish.

Getting there, but needs a bit of streamlining!

I am setting up a 125Litre (roughly 30 gallon) tank, it will have 1 dwarf gourami, 1 male betta, 13 pygmy corys, without the rams you could have 2 more Pygmy cories 12 boras briggitae, 8 or if you don't want 2 more cories you could have 3 more micro rasboras galaxy rasbora Galaxy rasboras should ideally be in lower temperatures compared to fish like bettas and gouramis, a better choice would be 8 hengals rasborasand 2 bolivian ramshaving rams with a Betta and a gourami is trouble waiting to happen, and I would also watch out when the rams are fully grown as your micro rasboras might start to disappear , it will have 2 filters. is that too much and do i need to change the quantities???

so I think your sticking should be
1 gourami
1 Betta
15 cories
12 micro rasboras
8 hengals rasboras

everyone said never to put bettas and gouramis together but that worked out ok so i have decide the final stocking list will be:

1 male betta
1 dwarf gourami
13 pygmy corys
14 borras briggitae
7 galaxy rasbora
and a pair of rams (but if they start to fight then i will just take them back to the shop)

IMO its to small of a space for the DG, Betta and rams but if it works for you then good luck.

thanks, im gunna introduce them all at the same time so they dont establish the entire tank as their territory, and what does IMO mean?? everyone keeps saying it but i dont know what it means???

I would still highly advise against that stocking because of the rams, and all the potential problems they can cause

My pair of bolivians tore up my betta, so I really suggest you don't do it. tbh.

ive kept bolivian rams with betta splendens and small fish and have had no issues. i can understand the betta/ram issue (tbh i would expect the betta to be the trouble maker not the rams), but i am really doubting that a ram would ever devour a neon tetra, copper harlequin or other similar fish

Honestly, I really think you're trying to pack too much into that tank. Rams, gouramis and bettas are all from very different wild habitats and you're really taking a risk trying to get any combination of them living together. Good luck to you if it works out but be prepared for a clash.

remove the internal filter. it will be stuck onto the glass with 4 dots of silicone which can be removed easily. this will give you more tank space and you can stick your old external on the tank.

the stocking is unusual but if its what you want to try then so be it and good luck with it.
